What is the name of the machine that cuts timber into slices?

I have a load of 30mm thickness MDF and I was wondering if it's possible to run the sheets through a machine that will cut the sheets into two e.g one 30mm thickness sheet cut into two 15mm thickness sheets (minus of course the blade thickness).

What is the name of the machine that cuts timber into slices?
saw
Reply:Band saw.. Head Rig.. Chipping saw..I cant see any mill willing to even consider it..They fo volume.
Reply:If that is what you want then find a plywood mill somewhere and order some sheets of what is called veneer. They cut it with a wood lathe. Most sheets are around 1/8 inch thick.
Reply:I'm glad you explained what you are trying to do. It would take a large 6-10 inch band-saw blade to cut it. Some new sawmills use this size.

BUT, no miller in his right mind would touch MDF with his mill saw. That stuff will gum and heat a blade ruthlessly and ruin it. Plus the milling costs for setup and cutting your sheet would by a lot of half inch MDF.
Reply:Yes a sawmill.
Reply:I think you would need an industrial size saw to do it and the cost would be incredibly expensive to have it done.
Reply:it IS a sawmill. nowadays they have oortable sawmill with bandsaws to cut the logs. years ago, they were much larger and had very large round sawblades. the man who done the cutting was called a sawyer. worked on one.
Reply:band saw you may 1/8" lose for the blade
Reply:My old man who is a carpenter said...... "Dunno"
Reply:giant bandsaw of some kind? i dunno
